The Pickle Mansion revisited: October
2003
On a muggy June morning at 730am fire decimated
the Pickle mansion at 1644 Clinch Ave. For well over hundred years she'd
stood through weather, abuse, neglect, a failing economy, changing times
and a decaying neighborhood. In the end, they all conspired against her
and brought down a grand old lady.
The elements, the neglect, the hand of progress.
They all work against these old houses. But perhaps the greatest force
against them is callous indifference. Just another rotten old tenement.
That's all it is. No one sees it for the piece of history it is.
